Contract Negotiator, shenbergergr@npt.nuwc.navy.mil. This is the third
amendment to combined synopsis/solicitation N66604-99-R-0839 published
on 1/28/99 for Unison Information Systems RAID I/O FLYER II DISK
STORAGE DEVICES. The closing date is extended to 2/26/99 and delivery
will be expected ten days after award. This amendment addresses more
questions from a potential offeror. Question 14: Please clarify whether
the 100 GB disk space (before decrement of "hot swap" unit) is the
overall gross capacity for all disk drives including the "parity" and
"hot-spare" drives or is it just the net user-accessible capacity?
Answer: The disk space requirement is inclusive of the parity and
hot-spare drives. Question 15: Is one "hot-spare" disk drive
acceptable? Answer: Yes. Question 16: Assuming that the 100 GB is the
user accessible capacity and that one "hot-spare" disk drive is
required, then the total number of disk drives should be 8 at 18 GB per
drive for an overall total capacity of 144 GB with a usable capacity of
108 GB (6 drives) which is what is left after deducting the parity and
hot-spare drives? Will this meet your requirements? Answer: Yes.
Question 17: Is the SCSI hot interface "single-ended" or
"differential"? Answer: Single-ended. Question 18: What do you mean by
"fail over hot swap disks"? Answer: If a drive fails, redundancy of
the drives ensures that no data from that drive is lost. The hot swap
disk will come on line and rebuild the lost data. The failed drive is
replaced without the system coming down and becomes the new hot swap
disk. Our department no longer issues solicitations or amendments in
