River Company (WSRC), management and operating contractor for the U.S.
Department of Energy's Savannah River Site (SRS) near Aiken, South
Carolina. The purpose of this notice is to determine public interest in
the reuse of excess Cobalt 60. We currently have about 771 slugs of
Cobalt 60 available for reuse. About 168 slugs averaged 11.5 Ci/gr.
with each slug carrying between 80-170 grams. The other 603 slugs are
older and will have a lower specific activity. It is estimated that
these are around 1 Ci/gr. The total curie count for all the slugs is
around 225,000 curies. The slugs are aluminum containers of cobalt
wafers. The slugs are about 1.0 inch by 8 inches. Interested parties
will be provided with a detailed description of the Cobalt 60 and will
be allowed to visit the site to inspect the material. Responses to
