The US Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA) intends to award a contract on a sole-source basis to Lab Services, Inc., Silver Springs, MD pursuant to FAR 6.302-1. This action is being pursued on a sole-source basis because the Government believes that Lab Services, Inc. is the only contractor with the expertise to complete these special studies and analysis for Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). USAMRAA intends to award this requirement under Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The period of performance is for 12 months from the date of award. The contractor shall provide ongoing research support to evaluate the association/dissociation rate of Huperzine A and its analogs with the NMDA ion channel, determine their interaction at other ionotropic glutamate receptors, and characterize the ionotropic glutamate receptor subtype to which huperzine A and its analogs interact most strongly; prepare biological tissue containing the receptors of interest; acquire, process, and, interpret the data from receptor binding experiments; ensure all necessary safety procedures; and perform independently and not under supervision of personnel from the Division of Biochemistry, WRAIR, or any other Government employee.
