The Naval Air Systems Command intends to procure on a sole source basis four additional C-40 aircraft from the Boeing Company. These aircraft will be the fourth through the seventh aircraft in the Navy C-40 fleet which is the replacement aircraft for the Navy DC-9 aircraft. This aircraft will also provide the capability for cargo and passenger transportation and is capable of providing forward deployment logistics support. This aircraft is the same type of aircraft that was procured under the NAVAIR contract N00019-97-C-2034, on a commercial basis. The contract was awarded on the basis of a competitively solicited, commercial best buy. A separate commercial contract, with the same terms and conditions as the initial contract, will be developed for the additional aircraft.
