66 -- MERCURY SPECIATION EQUIPMENT SOL PR-NC-99-10010 POC Starry M. Jones, Contract Administrator (919)541-2897, Julio E. Lopez, Contracting Officer (919)541-4474 E-MAIL: click here to contact the contract specialist via, jones.starry@epa.gov. The U. S Environmental Protection Agency intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Tekran, Inc., 1-132 Railside Road, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M3A 1A3, for a Tekran model 1130 mercury speciation unit and Tekran prototype model 1135-P particulate unit. Tekran Inc. has developed a unique denuder-based mercury speciation unit that is designed to work in conjunction with their existing model 2537A cold vapor atomic fluorescence mercury vapor analyzer (which EPA already owns). The model 1130 speciation unit includes a heated denuder module a heated umbilical sampling line, a pump module, a controller module, and a quartz denuder. The Tekran model 1135-P particulate unit concept and application has been an ongoing collaboration between academic scientists. EPA NERL scientists and Tekran engineers. Procurement of the Tekran prototype particulate instrument will allow NERL scientists to evaluate and test this new technology. The model 1130 controller module seamlessly integrates the proprietary analytical and data reduction/storage capabilities of the existing Tekran model 2537A unit with the new 1130 speciation module and 1135-P particulate module allowing for semi-continuous measurement of elemental mercury vapor (Hgo), divalent reactive gaseous mercury (Hg+2), and particulate phase mercury at ambient (pg m-3)concentrations. This Tekran 1130 speciation unit and Tekran model 1135-P particulate unit will be used in conjunction with an existing US EPA Tekran model 2537A presently operated in Barrow, Alaska, as part of the EPA Arctic Research Program.
