Prevention intends to negotiate with Wyeth-Lederle Vaccines &
Pediatrics on a sole source basis for modification of CDC's existing
Smallpox vaccine stockpile contract to provide for the production of
additional vaccinia diluent and bifurcated needles. Authority: 41
U.S.C.253 (c)(1), products are available from only one responsible
source. Diluent -- 150,000 single use vials for the reconstitution of
Wyeth's Dryvax (Smallpox vaccine dried calf lymph type). Each vial of
diluent must be capable of reconstituting one 100-dose vial of Dryvax.
Bifurcated needles -- fourteen million needles with appropriate
storage containers for proper application of the Dryvax vaccine. Both
the diluent and bifurcated needles must be approved and licensed by the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use with Dryvax vaccine. A
solicitation will not be issued for this acquisition. Interested
sources that believe they can meet the requirements should respond to
this notice within 15 calendar days and provide evidence of FDA
approval for the production of Dryvax diluent and bifurcated needles.
