ASSESSMENT FOR SIZE REDUCTION OF GLOVEBOXES,, caponte@eng.fiu.edu. The
Hemispheric Center for Environmental Technology (HCET) at Florida
International University (FIU), and the Department of Energy (DOE) are
seeking D&D technology suppliers to demonstrate their technologies in
a comparative analysis for the size reduction of Gloveboxes, Kynar
(Rasching Rings) tanks, and Annular Tanks. This study is to support the
Office of Science and Technology (OST), the D&D focus area, and the
Rocky Flats site. The study will be conducted under standardized,
non-nuclear conditions at the HCET technology assessment site in Miami,
Florida. Qualified technologies will demonstrate their cutting
technologies on Gloveboxes, Kynar tanks, and/or Annular Tanks. Even
though the mock-up of gloveboxes and tanks at HCET test facility are
not radiological contaminated, all demonstrations should proceed as if
being used within a nuclear facility. Technologies demonstrated will
be evaluated based on performance, cost, and health and safety
factors.. The test surrogates will be provided by HCET including
stainless steel Gloveboxes 9' L x 4' W x 5' H, Kynar Tanks 10' H x 5'6"
D, and Annular Tanks 9' 6" L x 4'6" D. The technologies in the study
will include robotic, thermal, and mechanical dismantlement
technologies with bias toward those cutting technologies integrated
with ventilation capture systems or similar devices/systems that
protect workers from fumes and aerosols generated during the cutting
process. All other applicable technologies are encouraged to respond.
Qualified suppliers shall have experience in nuclear D&D activities.
The qualified firms are to provide references of nuclear D&D jobs
completed. Interested firms should send a letter of qualifications
stating how the firms meet the minimum requirements including: address,
contact person, telephone, and fax numbers to Carmen Alicia Aponte, D&D
Project Manager, Hemispheric Center for Environmental Technology,
Florida International University Center for Engineering and Applied
Sciences, 10555 West Flagler Street, CEAS-2260 Miami, Florida 33174, no
later than 03/31/99. The letter of qualifications will be used to
prequalify prospective companies. The request for proposal (RFP) will
be available for the qualified firms approximately 04/19/99. Posted
