U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, P.O. Box 4970, Jacksonville, Florida 32232-0019

Y -- PONCE DE LEON INLET NORTH JETTY EXTENSION AND REVETMENT, VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL SOL DACW17-99-B-0015 DUE 042999 POC Wanda I. Cruz 904-232-2083 WEB: Click here to view further information and bidders, http://www.saj.usace.army.mil. E-MAIL: Click here to contact the Contract Specialist, wanda.i.cruz@usace.army.mil). This project consists of two separate features of work to be constructed along the north shore of Ponce de Leon Inlet as follows: The first feature will be the Contract Base Bid portion of work and the second feature will be the Option Bid portion of the work. (1) The first feature of work consists of constructing an 800-foot landward extension of the north jetty to the west, referred to as revetment section #1. The revetment will tie into the existing north jetty at Station 58+00. The revetment crest elevation will be +12 feet, MLW, which matches the crest elevation of the north jetty and the existing topography behind this portion of the revetment. The crest width will be 12 feet and a front slope of 1 vertical on 2 horizontal will be constructed down to elevation -5.5 feet, MLW. A 25-foot scour apron will be constructed at the toe of the revetment. The base of the structure will be at elevation -15 feet, MLW. Both revetment and scour apron will consist of a 2-foot-thick layer of bedding stone that will be placed over nonwoven geotextile filter fabric and a 7.5-foot-thick layer of armor stone that will be placed over the bedding stone. The bedding stone will be standard Department of Transportation graded Florida limerock, with a density of 140 lbs/ft . Armor stone will be 165 lbs/ft with a median stone size of 8,500 lbs. The crest of the revetment will be chinked with bedding stone from elevation +4.5 to +12, in order to decrease the permeability of the revetment and minimize loss of backbeach material through the structure. Total quantities of materials required for construction of revetment section #1 are approximately 35,692 tons of armor stone, 8,538 tons of bedding stone, 768 tons of chinking stone (same gradation as bedding stone), 9,780 square yards of filter fabric, and 60,000 cubic yards of excavation. Material removed during excavation is to be replaced over toe of revetment and as backfill, to approximate pre-construction grade. The estimated contract performance period for revetment section #1 is 9 months, which includes 2 months for Mobilization and Demobilization. (2) The second feature of work consists of constructing an approximately 1,540-foot revetment extending westward from the end of revetment section #1, referred to as revetment section #2. The revetment crest elevation will be +10 feet, MLW. The crest width will be 7.5 feet and a front slope of 1 vertical on 2 horizontal will be constructed down to elevation -15 feet, MLW. No scour apron will be provided. The revetment will consist of a 1.5-foot thick layer of bedding stone that will be placed over nonwoven geotextile filter fabric and a 5-foot thick layer of armor stone that will be placed over the bedding stone. The same bedding stone gradations will be used and the crest will be chinked in the same manner as revetment section #1. The armor stone will be 165 lbs/ft with a median stone size of 2,500 lbs. Total quantities of materials required for construction of revetment section #2 are approximately 30,056 tons of armor stone, 8,476tons of bedding stone, 610 tons of chinking stone (same gradation as bedding stone), 13,000 square yards of filter fabric, and 40,000 cubic yards of excavation. Material removed during excavation is to be replaced over toe of revetment and as backfill, to approximate pre-construction grade. The estimated contract performance period for the revetment #2 is 6 months. Magnitude of construction is between $5,000,000 and $10,000,000. Pre-Solicitation Notice was issued 02/19/99. Invitation will be issued on or about 03/11/99 and open on or about 04/29/99. Solicitation will be issued in electronic format only. Bidders will be provided a CD ROM at no cost.
