EPA -- Cincinnati Contracts Management Division,
easley.deanna@epamail.epa.gov. Under the authority granted in FAR
6.302-1, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency intends to negotiate
on a sole source basis with Sun Microsystems for the acquisition of a
computer system for its Corvallis, Oregon facility. The US EPA,
Corvallis, Oregon, requires a computer to connect multiple existing
Unix-based desktop workstations. This computer will be used to perform
CPU-intensive analyses and will allow personnel to use existing
desktop workstations without modifying any software or data files. The
existing desktop workstations run Sun Microsystem's UNIX operating
system (Solaris) and a variety of both commercial and locally developed
software that can only be used with Solaris. The Government's minimum
specifications for this computer system are as follows: computer must
be installed with four 336-MHz/4-MB Ultra SPARC CPU modules; designed
to hold eight 336-MHz/4-MB Ultras SPARC CPU modules; contain two
Gigabytes of manufacturer's original RAM; contain a modularized I/O
Board for CPU and memory support; contain four 9-Gigabyte 7200 RPM
(minimum) FC-AL disk drives; contain FC-AL modular interface board for
disk I/O; contain a 12-24GB 4mm DDS-3 internal tape drive; contain a
32X CD-ROM; equipment must be NEW. This computer will be installed as
a server that connects multiple existing Unix-based desktop
workstations. Therefore, it is critical that this computer be
compatible with existing hardware and software. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST
FOR QUOTATIONS. This acquisition will be accomplished under FAR Part
12, Acquisition of Commercial Items. Only sources capable of fully
meeting the unique technical performance specifications outlined above,
without exception, will be considered. A determination by the
Government not to compete this acquisition is solely within the
discretion of the Government. Any firm that feels it can provide this
computer which meets the Government's minimum specifications must
provide technical documentation within 15 days of publication of this
synopsis. Posted 02/23/99 (W-SN301299). (0054) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0382 19990225\66-0014.SOL)
