COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 26,1999 PSA#2291NATIONAL LOGISTICS SYMPOSIUM & EXHIBITION February 18, 1999 NDIA's 15th
Annual DoD Logistics Symposium Tackles Reform Issues As reported in a
defense-oriented trade publication, the Defense Science Board (DSB)
recently concluded that "The Defense Department's fragmented logistics
system must be reformed before the U.S. military can achieve a
revolution in military affairs." The National Defense Industrial
Association (NDIA), takes on this vital and timely issue, as well as
numerous related topics, at its 15th Annual DoD Logistics Symposium and
Exhibition, on April 26-29, 1999 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Tampa,
Florida. The DSB's report also warns that "DoD must recognize that
logistics transformation is a 'BIG DEAL ..a very BIG DEAL. DoD's
logistics system is fragmented with no end-to-end control, integration,
performance measures and accountability.Transformation of logistics
business and information systems must be led by a logistics system
architect with the power to defineand enforce an integrated system."
And in keeping with the tone of this report, NDIA's conference,
"Logistics Business Transformation: Building and Growing the Right
Partnership" is aptly named. The symposium is intended to provide a
forum for DoD and industry logisticians to exchange ideas and build
partnerships that will assist the DoD in achieving its goal of an
integrated, warfighter-driven, secure supply chain that focuses on
customer service and customer-driven requirements. Speakers include:
Mr. Roger Kallock, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Logistics); Mr.
Phil LePore, Executive Vice President, Raytheon Systems Company and
Chairman & CEO, Raytheon Technical Services Company; and Mr. Lou Kratz,
Director, Logistics Systems Re-Engineering, Office of the Deputy Under
Secretary of Defense (Logistics). This symposium is essential to those
government and industry leaders, managers, and program development
personnel engaged in providing acquisition and logistics support to
current and emerging programs. Attendees will have the opportunity to
meet, receive, andexchange information with government and industry
leaders. It has particular value I relation to current trends in
downsizing, privatization, commercialization, budget dynamics, and the
landmark changes in priorities and policies of the Congress, DoD, and
associated government agencies. For information regarding registration
