R -- TRANSLATION SERVICES SOL JECRM-99-0008 DUE 052799 POC Miles Stroman (202) 307-1969 The U.S. Department of Justice has a requirement for translations of all manner of documents (written and electronic) and contents of video and/or audio media (cassettes, compact discs, etc.) and ancillary services such as court and deposition interpreting, simultaneous and consecutive interpretation, and any other linguistic support activities directed by the Government in support of Department of Justice objectives and programs. The contractor shall provide certified translation of documents. Each translation is to be an exact rendering into the target language and is to be reviewed and certified as a true and accurate translation of the document as admissible in a court of law. Translation services will be from a variety of foreign languages into English and from English into a variety of foreign languages. The mandatory languages included but are not limited to: French, Italian, Spanish-Castillian (Spain), Spanish-South American (Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile), Portuguese (both Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese), German, Dutch, Yiddish, Russian, Polish, Ukrainian, Croatian, Hungarian, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Hebrew, Arabic (Maghrebi; Classical; Egyptian; other dialects), Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, Bahsa, Indonesia Chinese: Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese, and Fukkianese. The desirable languages include but are not limited to: Catalan, Haitian Creole, Romanian, Moldavan, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Belarusian, Czech, Slovak, Serbian, Slovenian, Bulgarian, Finnish, Baltic, Albanian, Greek, Chinese (Szechuanese), Hindi, (and seven sisters), Farsi, Turkish, Turkic (Uzbek, Kirkyz), Pashto and Urdu. The context of materials to be translated or interpreted is as a rule legal. The substance of the materials, however, may vary widely and is frequently highly complex, technical, and specialized. For example, a translation may deal with detailed German-language materials using Nazi terminology and other specific euphemisms and concepts employed before, during, and after World War II; or, with patent or copyright infringement involving scientific formulas in a Chinese dialect; or, with complex bank transactions which occurred in a foreign country and are represented by specific banking or financial terminology native to that country. The Government anticipates award of a base period of twelve (12) months plus optional periods of one year each up to a maximum sixty (60) months performance period. Multiple awards are anticipated.
