E-MAIL: Ronald L. Matthews, Ronald.L.Matthews@lerc.nasa.gov. NASA/LeRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the development of the Hollow Cathode Microion Thruster (HCMT). This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/LeRC intends to purchase the items from Maxwell Laboratories located in San Diego CA. Maxwell Laboratories is uniquely qualified to execute the statement of work, due to their development effort of the analytical tools necessary to conduct the computational-design study of the HCMT. These tools are not available through other means. Also Maxwell has been involved in previous NASA-contract efforts to develope small hollow cathodes, which constitue the design-basis for the micro-thruster therefore they are intimately familiar with the physics of these devices. Maxwell along with the NASA-LeRC conceived and formulated the original concept of the HCMT. The contract period of performance shall be for 12 months.
