Department of Energy's Federal Energy Technology Center (DOE/FETC)
announces the availability of Program Research and Development
Announcement (PRDA) No. DE-RA26-99FT40191 entitled "Natural Fracture
Exploration Methodology Extrapolation." The objective of this effort is
to demonstrate proven technologies and methodologies, or technologies
with strong near-term commercialization potential, for detecting and
quantifying areas of high natural fracture density, that are likely to
lead to commercial gas production, in low permeability "tight" gas
sand formations. The presence and quantity of predicted natural
fractures shall be validated by drilling and testing a verification
well(s). The demonstrations shall be in areas of favorable gas
production potential in basins or formations where the technology has
not yet been demonstrated. In-fill and step-out development well sites
will not be considered. The effort will likely consist of the
following: 1) acquisition of data, 2) processing and analysisof data
and well site selection, 3) drilling and testing of a verification well
and 4)technology transfer/commercialization. The solicitation will be
posted on the FETC Homepage for distribution purposes; the address is
"http://www.fetc.doe.gov/business/solicit/". The solicitation should be
available in early April, 1999, with proposals being due in mid-May,
1999. Offerors are encouraged to download the solicitation once it
becomes available, as paper copies will not be provided. Any amendments
to the solicitation will also be posted on the FETC Homepage. An
Information Package will be posted on the FETC Homepage shortly after
this notice, describing the draft technical requirements; comments,
suggestions, and/or questions are welcomed and encouraged. Multiple
awards are anticipated, with one award set aside for a small business
