COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 4,1999 PSA#2295MSE Technology Applications Inc, P.O. Box 4078, Butte, Montana 59702 A -- DEVELOPMENT OF A PASSIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR IRON & MANGANESE REMOVAL
SOL A72134 DUE 031999 POC Charles E. Ries, Sr. Subcontract
Administrator, (406) 494-7188 This is a Request for Information to
determine the availability of passive technologies to remove manganese
and iron from acid mine drainage. The technology will provide
long-term, passive treatment of iron- and manganese-containing waters
discharging from abandoned, hard-rock mines in remote locations.
Because of the remoteness of the application locations, the technology
will require little maintenance and operation attention. The
technology will be able to function over a wide range of temperatures
(-40 to +80 degrees F). The flow rate of the water to be treated will
be approximately 10 gallons per minute with a pH of 5 to 7. Iron and
manganese concentrations will be approximately 40 parts per million
(ppm) and 15 ppm respectively. Other metal contaminants in the water
will be removed prior to being treated by the requested technology;
however, minor concentrations of other metals may still be present in
the water. Those proposing technologies will be required to identify
and provide a passive technology meeting the specific project
requirements. Interested parties should submit information including
the state of developement of the proposed technology plus analytical
data and flowrates from completed projects. A Request for Proposal for
laboratory and field testing of a technology will be issued at a
future date if this Request for Information indicates that sufficient
technologies exist. Posted 03/02/99 (W-SN303772). (0061) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0009 19990304\A-0009.SOL)
