Division Newport intends to issue a sole-source contract to Physical Sciences, Andover, MA for 1 ea. CW Blue-green Laser and 1 ea. Modulator System. The above items are to be integrated into an Automated Sound Velocity Profiler currently under development by Physical Sciences under SBIR Phase II Contract N66604-98-C-6713. The integrated system will consist of a laser and a laser light modulation system. The modulation system will frequency shift the laser light and also provide pseudo-random noise phase modulation of the frequency shifted laser light signal by providing the electronic power amplification and electro-optic phase modulators for the PRN signal. The components will consist of: Transmitter source: Continuous Wave (CW) blue-green laser -- a CW Neodymium laser with frequency doubler producing a blue-green output wavelength with these characteristics: 532 wavelength; 1 Watt minimum output power; 30 m minimum coherence length. Modulator system: Combining electronic frequency generator, amplifier system and acousto-optic modulators to frequency shift the bleu-green laser light source and also amplify the PRN signal which drives the electo-optic phase modulators. Characteristics of frequency shifter: Blue-green laser wavelength operation; 1 MHz maximum frequency shift. Characteristics of phase modulator: Blue-green laser wavelength operation; 8/2 at blue-green laser wavelength phase shift; and a minimum bandwidth of 240 MHz.
