B -- MATERIALS CHARACTERIZATION SOL W813LT-9048-6037 DUE 031999 POC Bonita Zander, Purchasing Agent, 410-278-6515 Jeanine Worthington, Contracting Officer, 410-278-6514 The contractor shall perform materials characterization which includes phase identification by x-ray diffraction, microstructure and substructure determination by scanning and transmission electron microscopy (including chemical analysis), and high strain-rate compressive strength and fracture toughness measurements using a modified Hopkinson bar apparatus. The statement of work shall include, but not be limited to, (1) Identification of phases by x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (back-scattered electron imaging and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy); (2) Microstructure and substructure determination by scanning and transmission electron microscopy; (3) Quantitative/Semi-Quantitative determination of volume content of phases by x-ray diffraction and image analysis; (4) Dynamic fracture toughness and compressive strength determination; (5) Written report containing pertinent results (maximum 30 pages). Report must be written using MSWord version 6 or lower. High-quality digitally scanned imagaes are acceptable for the report. Three (3) hard copies and one electronic copy of the report shall be sent to the Technical POC.
