99 -- IMPROVING QUALITY IN LONG-TERM CARE" POC Renee A. Wallace, Contract Specialist, 410-786-51228 The Health Care Financing Administration, (HCFA) intends to award, under Simplified Acquisitions Procedures, on a sole source basis, a firm fixed price award with the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine, Board on Health Care Services FO 3110, 2101 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20418 for an additional committee meeting. The committee will meet in to review the newly drafted material and deliberate further on its findings and recommendations. It would also considered revisions in other parts of the committee report relating to the definition and enforcement of regulatory standards, work force problems, organizational capcity for quality improvement, and quality measurement and information strategies. The report will provide independent expert advice to guide government policy makers and private decision makers, who face critical choices about long-term care financing, quality assessment, and other issues covered in the report. The Institute of Medicine, (IOM) will review the report in accordance with the National Research Council procedures. The committee's report will be delivered to project sponsors and made public in late summer or early fall, 1999. The National Academy of Sciences/Institute of Medicine with its expertise in the medical profession is in the unique position to provide the objectivity and level of professionalism required to complete this critical task. All others who respond must be prepared to provide clear and convincing evidence that they have the same standards and status as the The National Academy of Sciences/Institute of Medicine. The Government shall make the final determination of whether the other offerors have the same standards and status equal to that of The National Academy of Sciences/Institute of Medicine.
