D=532. E-MAIL: Richard Myers, rmyers@spacecom.af.mil. REQUEST FOR
INFORMATION ON FUTURE TECHNOLOGY: This is a request for information
only, no Request for Proposal (RFP) or Invitation for Bid (IFB) will be
issued as a result of the information gathered at this time. The
Communications and Information Directorate at Headquarters Air Force
Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado,
has a need to collect information on possible future technology.
Specifically, the directorate wants to learn about the near term
feasibility of transmission of voice over IP. Interested firms should
address the issue in detail, stating what capabilities are envisioned
for voice transmission over IP and how such a medium can be compatible
in a highly reliable command and control, multi-level security
environment which will be mostly (if not all) fiber-based. Note any
current technology pertinent to voice-over-IP, as well as obstacles
which may impede development, plus a rough time estimate on making
voice-over-IP technology feasible and applications forthis technology.
Also address how such technology could be cost-effectively and
reasonably provided. Reports should be typed using a 12-pitch Times New
Roman font and should be bound. Do not submit a loose-leafed report.
Ensure the report is concise and jargon-less using standard English and
in keeping with The Chicago Manual of Style. Define all terms.
Proprietary information included in the report should be so noted;
otherwise, the information contained therein becomes the property of
the United States Air Force. Any provided information should be sent to
the requestor no later than 45 days from the date of this request. The
directorate hopes to install a voice-over-IP capability at Peterson
Air Force Base in the 2002 timeframe. However, this request is for
information only and does not lead to the award of contracts. Firms
interested in addressing this future technology question should direct
their reports to: Major Steve Browning, USAF AFSPC CSS/SCIC 150
