Phone (301) 757-5900 On a sole source basis, the Naval Air Systems
Command intends to contract with McDonnell Douglas Corporation, a
wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company (MDC) of St. Louis,
Missouri 63166-0516 for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development,
Integration and Low Rate Initial Production of an Advanced Mission
Computer and Display (AMC&D) system. The AMC&D will consist of an
Advanced Mission Computer (which consists of Mission and Display
Processors), Display Heads, and High-Speed Data Bus Interfaces with
Fiber Channel Switches. The AMC&D system will replace the AN/AYK-14
Mission Computer, the 5x5 Multi-Purpose Display Indicator, the
Multi-Purpose Display Repeater Indicator, and Multi-Purpose Color
Display presently installed in the F/A-18C/D/E/F and AV-8B Aircraft.
The AMC&D will be developed using an open systems architecture and
modular approach to fill the need for other military aircraft's mission
computer and display/display processing subsystems. The AMC&D EMD
effort willconsist of physical, electrical, mechanical, cooling,
functional design, integration and flight test of the AMC&D system. MDC
is the F/A-18 and AV-8B prime contractor responsible for Operational
Flight Program upgrades and modifications as well as avionics system
integration onto the aircraft. MDC is the sole manufacturer of the
F/A-18 and AV-8B aircraft and the only contractor who has the
knowledge, experience and technical data required to successfully
design and integrate the AMC&D system into the anticipated program
