E-MAIL: Eric W. Lewis, eric.w.lewis1@jsc.nasa.gov. NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request for Offer (RFO) for the X-38 Nickel Cadium (NiCd) Batteries. This requirement is for the 270V battery design, assembly, verification, and delivery to NASA/JSC. The contractor shall be required to design a battery system consisting of 4 identical 270V battery modules using a commercial NiCd cell. The capacity requirement for the battery module is only 5.35 Ah, the peak current requirement is 170A for 60 milliseconds. Additionally, the contractor shall be required to design, assemble, and provide a ground support equipment charger to recharge these battery modules. Verification shall include cell acceptance screening (at 100%) and lot certification and battery module vibration, shock, and thermal vacuum testing. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. The SIC Code and Size Standard are 3692 and 1000 emp., respectively. The DPAS Rating for this procurement is DO-C9. The provisions and clauses in the RFO and model contract are those in effectthrough FAC 97-10. All qualified responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. The anticipated release date of the RFO is on or about April 12,1999 with an anticipated offer due date of on or about May 5, 1999. An ombudsman has been appointed -- See Internet Note "B".
