Thomas, mary.f.thomas1@jsc.nasa.gov. NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request
for Quotation (RFQ) for an Autostereoscopic Collimated Display. This
display is part of a research effort to develop technologies for
out-the-window displays to be used in simulators. These simulators are
used for training on-orbit robotics operations. This particular
purchase is for a prototype system to be used in an existing simulator
called the Prototype Part Task Trainer (P2T2). The system must meet
the following requirements: (1) be capable of sitting on a desktop so
that the operator can use it in a sitting position from a few feet
away; (2) produce an image of at least 18 inch diagonal; (3) produce an
image of at least 1280x1024 resolution; (4) provide the operator with
a stereo image without the use of special glasses or any other device
that must be worn by the operator (autostereoscopic); (5) produce an
image that is viewed with eyes focused at or near infinity
(collimated); (6) accept a signal from a Silicon Graphics Onyx2
computer system through an RGB interface; (7) system documentation and
cables and connectors to compatible VGA must be included; (8) system
must carry at least an one-year warranty on standard parts and labor;
(9) vendor required to install system. This procurement is being
conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/JSC
intends to purchase the system from Dimensions Technology, Incorporated
(DTI) of Rochester, New York. DTI was found to be the only source able
to provide the needed system enhancements to the Model 2018XL 3D
Display to include autostereoscopic technology and collimation. The
Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.
