COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 22,1999 PSA#2307Commander, Marine Corps System Command, Code CTQ, 2033 Barnett Avenue,
Ste 315, Quantico, VA 22134-5010 12 -- M1A1 ABRAMS TANK FIREPOWER ENHANCEMENTS DUE 042099 POC Robin
Richards, (703) 784-4561 E-MAIL: POC email address,
richardsr@quantico.usmc.mil. 17. The Marine Corps Systems Command is
conducting market research to seek sources, contract vehicles,
technical information, and approximate costing for M1A1 Abrams Tank
Firepower Enhancements. The firepower enhancements must increase the
speed and accuracy with which the tank can acquire and engage targets.
Potential sources may propose alternative solutions that range from,
but are not limited to, the following capabilities: 1) an improved
thermal sight that will allow the M1A1 to detect, identify, and engage
hostile targets at ranges in excess of the target's ability to do the
same, and at a significantly lower cost than presently fielded second
generation FLIR systems, 2) a far target location capability that, at
a minimum, constantly displays turret azimuth (error of no greater
than +/- 10 mils rms.) and displays the target's grid location (eight
digit grid coordinate) after the crew inputs range to target and own
location, and 3) an auto target tracker that tracks a target selected
within the field-of view of the visible image sensor and provides
target/rate/positional information to automate a portion of the target
engagement process, improve probability of hit, and shorten the target
service time. Proposed solutions must integrate within the space and
power budget of the M1A1 Tank. The tank operates on a 24vdc system.
Proposed solutions must operate over a wide range of environments to
include, among others, high and low temperature, and severe shock and
vibration. The Government seeks to identify any proposed solutions that
are non-developmental items (NDI)/commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS) that
would satisfy the requirements identified above. This request is for
information only and interested sources should send information, no
later than 20 APR 99, to: COMMANDER, MARINE CORPS SYSTEMS COMMAND,
ATTN: ROBIN J. RICHARDS, CODE CTQRR, 2033 BARNETT AVE, SUITE 315,
QUANTICO, VA 22134-5010. Any questions should be directed to the
contact person listed above. THE SUBMISSION OF THIS INFORMATION IS FOR
PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY AND IS NOT TO BE CONTRUED AS A COMMITMENT BY
THE GOVERNMENT TO PROCURE ANY ITEMS, NOR FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO PAY FOR
THE INFORMATION RECEIVED. NO SOLICITATION DOCUMENT EXISTS. Posted
