The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, is searching for
"turnkey" contractors who can provide bagged ice, shipping and storage
during periods of emergencies. The minimum requirements are as
follows: 1)Delivery of 1 million pounds of bagged ice within 24 hours
of "activating" the contract and 1 million pounds of bagged ice every
other day thereafter. 2)Delivery will be to major distribution points
within the Southeastern United States as well as Puerto Rico and the
Virgin Islands. 3)The contractor will be responsible for transporting
the ice from the ice plant to major distribution points (estimated that
each state will have one or two major distribution points), storing and
handling ice for up to 30 days with a maximum storage at 2 million
pounds. The contractor has the option to either store the ice in the
transport vans, contractor provided storage units, or local, contractor
leased, storage facilities. Contractor will be required to provide all
off loading and handling and required to "man" these major
distribution points 24 hours a day. 4)As an option the government may
require the contractor to make deliveries from the major distribution
points to secondary delivery points and will pay on a mileage basis.
5)Follow-on ice delivered to Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands can
either be barged or air lifted in, however the initial delivery within
24 hours of order will require air lifting. 6)Ice shall be provided
from certified ice plant utilizing municipal water. 7)Ice will be
bagged in 5 to 20 pound bags and transported in pallet size lined
cardboard containers. 8)Each container will clearly indicate plant and
date of origin. THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS DOES NOT INTENT TO AWARD A
CONTRACT ON THE BASIS OF THIS INFORMATION REQUEST OR OTHERWISE PAY FOR
INFORMATION SOLICITED. No further written request for information will
be provided in addition to this notice. Responses to this notice should
be provided to the Chief of Contracting Division, United States Army
Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, 334 Meeting Street, Room 324,
Charleston, SC 29403-6479. All responses must be provided in writing.
