58 -- BIOLOGICAL AGENT DETECTION/IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM POC Kim Walton, Contract Specialist, (210) 536-6385; Robert S. Urey, Jr., Contracting Officer, (210) 536-4570 The Government is hereby issuing a Request for Information (RFI) and sources sought synopsis to investigate a production-ready technology for use in detecting and identifying biological warfare (BW) agents. The system will be used on ships, wheeled vehicles, as a man-portable system and in a permanent fixed-site configuration. As part of this investigation, the Air Force is seeking information on a BW detection/identification system to develop a list of sources for a potential comparative testing program. The system must be capable of completely automatic collection, detection and identification of all the biological warfare (BW) agents listed in Category A of the ITF-6 Report of 9 Feb 90. It must be capable of collecting confirmatory samples of airborne particles, and be fully integrated, including environmental controls necessary to operate from -28 C to 40 C. The system must contain its own uninterruptible power supply that is rechargeable, and the system must be capable of operating on power from an electric generator. In addition, the system must provide an interface for remote indication of detection and identification results, and the system must weigh no more than 800 lbs.
