97814 F -- FUELS REDUCTION BY HELICOPTER REMOVAL OF TREES AND SLASH SOL
R6-16-99-12 DUE 052699 POC Contracting Office, 541-523-1209 This
solicitation is to secure services to improve forest health and reduce
forest fuels on 637 acres on the Baker Ranger District of the
Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. Work includes falling of dead and
green trees > 9" DBH; thinning of < 9" DBH green trees;
helicopter yarding of dead fiber trees, 5"-9" whole green trees and
9"-21" whole commercial green trees; log haul; biomass (slash) piling;
helicopter landing restoration; thinning; and associated slash work.
Work also includes of 4.60 miles of road reconstruction, of which 3.02
miles is to be built on a new location. Reconstruction on existing
roads consists of minor clearing and subgrade widening, construction of
drainage features, subgrade finishing, and surfacing. Reconstruction in
relocated areas consists of clearing, excavation, drainage features,
and spot surfacing. There will also be 1.58 miles of road obliteration,
consisting of roadbed scarification, earth barricades, and road
junction camoflaging. The project is located on the Baker Ranger
District, Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, Baker County, Oregon. The
