NASA/GSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ)546-17879/721 for Item 1, 18 each pieces of 6061-T6 Aluminum Alloy Tubing, forged, finished dimensions of 17.75" O.D.(+1/2", -0") x 15.0" I.D.(+0, -3/8") x 60" long (+1", -0"). All tubing shall have outside and inside diameters to 250 machine finish; sonic per MIL STD-2154-CLA; material per MIL A22771D; heat treatment per MIL H-6088G. The forged cylinders shall be quenched in a configuration such that the longitudinal axis of the cylinder enter the quench bath perpendicular to the quenchant surface and remain perpendicular to this surface during the entire quenching process. Item 2, 6 each pieces of 6061-T6, T651 Aluminum Tubing 14.2" O.D. x 2.1" wall x 60" long drawn or extruded round aluminum tubing. This tubing should be certified to meet government specification WW-T-700/6 (drawn) or QQ-A-200/8 (extruded). Tubing shall have extended surface finish and meet tolerance requirements of ANS1 H35.2-1975, standard dimensional tolerances for aluminum mill products. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). The government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have 15 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/ capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the 15 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
