The Marine Corps Systems Command is conducting market research for equipment upgrades to the Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB), called the AVLB Product Improvement Program (PIP). We are seeking sources, contract vehicles, technical information and approximate costing for the AVLB PIP, which will include engine, transmission, final drives and suspension upgrades. The AVLB PIP is needed to maintain pace with armored/mechanized forces, and the expected upgrades must increase the vehicle's maximum road and cross country speed, while carrying a bridge safely. The AVLB PIP must be operational and maintainable in all types of climate and terrain where the vehicle may be deployed. It also must be capable of operating during full exposure to various temperature extremes. The AVLB PIP bridging capability must use the existing MLC-60 bridge or the upgraded MLC-70 bridge on the current AVLB. The AVLB PIP must not effect the performance of the current bridge launching system on the AVLB. The system upgrades that are desired should have maximum commonalty of upgraded components with the M88A2 Hercules and M1A1 tank drivetrain components. The purpose of these upgrades are to reduce logistical footprint and maximize supportability, and improve overall operational readiness and reliability of the system while reducing operational and support costs to the U.S. Marine Corps.
