69 -- PROCUREMENT OF MILES 2000 TACTICAL ENGAGEMENT SYSTEMS WITH POSITION LOCATION AND TRANSMISSION CAPABILITY FOR COPE THUNDER EXERCISES DUE 041399 POC Michael K. Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) 2000 Tactical Engagement Systems (TES) with position location and transmission capability for Cope Thunder exercises. The U.S. Army Simulation, Training and Instrumentation Command has a requirement for 249 MILES 2000 TES upgraded with position location and transmission capability for support of Cope Thunder exercises. The user's requirements include quantities of M16, M249, M240B, M24, and M2 TES kits, Ground TOW kits, independent target systems, and after action review software. In order to support the Cope Thunder fielding and after action review integration schedule, the TES must be delivered during the Year 2000 in order to permit full functional integration during the Eielson AFB runway shutdown. Cubic Defense Systems, San Diego, CA, the MILES 2000 TES Contractor, is the only contractor that has an independently tested system for every required weapon platform type. The MILES 2000 Program has produced and tested, with the exception of position location data transmission, TES that meets all of the user's requirements. No other contractor would be able to perform the design tasks and conduct the developmental and operational testing in sufficient time for the Army to integrate and field a system in the Year 2000. Cubic Defense Systems is the only source which possesses the necessary data, current design, and expertise to perform this effort.
