COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 30,1999 PSA#2313NEW HORIZONS SYMPOSIUM "JOINT C2 EXPERIMENTATION AND CROSS SERVICE
PARTNERING" The Lexington-Concord Chapter of the Armed Forces
Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) in participation
with the USAF Electronic Systems Center (ESC) is pleased to announce a
two-day symposium entitled "New Horizons" on 8 -- 9 April 1999 at the
Burlington Marriott Hotel, Burlington, MA. The Electronic Systems
Center at Hanscom AFB, MA is one of the Air Force Materiel Command's
major acquisition centers. ESC specializes in acquisition of electronic
Command & Control (C2) systems including communications,
reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence systems, and information
processing. The symposium theme is "Joint C2 Experimentation and Cross
Service Partnering;" with the subtitle "How Will Investment Decisions
and Acquisition Strategies Be Impacted." In other words, this year's
"New Horizons" might well be called "Expanding Horizons." The
symposium's enlarged scope features a new emphasis on jointness,
experimentation, and a longer investment perspective for industry. As
always, briefings on future business opportunities will be a key part
of the proceedings. The entire program is unclassified and open to all
attendees. The keynote speaker, MITRE Corporation Vice President Dr.
Hal Sorenson, will get the symposium underway with a talk on the Air
Force Command and Control Roadmap. Two panel discussions -- "The
Changing Strategic Environment and Its Impact on C2" chaired by Matt
Mleziva and "Air Force Experimentation" chaired by BG (sel) Trey
Obering -- and a session on business opportunities round out the first
day. Another business opportunities session kicks off the second day.
It will be followed by a pair of panel discussions: "An Industry
Perspective -- Building a Better C2 System" chaired by MITRE Vice
President Bob Nesbit and "Joint Experimentation, Integration, and
Interoperability of C2 Systems" led by Col. Tony Sharon. The
registration fee of $375 for AFCEA members and $400 for non-members for
the symposium will be used to defray expenses incidental to the conduct
of thesymposium. This includes printing and mailing costs,
administrative expenses, refreshments, luncheons, reception and a
contribution to the Chapter's General Fund. There are also government
rates of $175 for members and $200 for non-members. All lodging and
transportation arrangements are the responsibility of the attendees.
The Burlington Marriott Hotel, Burlington, MA (781-229-6565) is the
