COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 2,1999 PSA#2316National Cancer Institute, Research Contracts Branch, Office of the
Chief, Executive Plaza South, MSC 7222, 6120 Executive Blvd., Room 608,
Bethesda, MD 20892-7222 A -- LABORATORY SUPPORT FOR GOVERNMENT SCIENTISTS WORKING AT THE FRED
HUTCHINSON CANCER RESEARCH CENTER POC David M. Keefer, Contracting
Officer, 301/496-8628 The National Cancer Institute (NCI) proposes to
extend contract NO1-CM-65017 with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research
Center (FHCRC), Seattle, WA, for an additional two years of effort. In
May 1996, NCI entered into a contract with FHCRC to support Government
scientists working at the Center in their effort to evaluate a novel
approach to transplanting human genes into yeast cells to develop a
high through put screen for anti-cancer drugs. This model would be used
for screening new potential anti-cancer agents, to study new drug
targets, and to gain new insights into currently available drugs, i.e.,
their specific targets and mode of action. At this point in time, the
screening effort has shown interesting correlations between the
compounds screened and various biochemical pathways in genetically
engineered yeast. This two year extension is required to continue the
activities initiated under the basic contract and to pursue other
interesting aspects of the screening program. This action is under the
authority of 41 USC 253(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1 and HHSAR
306-302-1. Only one responsible source and no other supplies or
services will satisfy agency requirements. Interested parties may
identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or
submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for
competitive proposals. However, all proposals received within 45 days
after publication of this synopsis will be considered by the
Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this
proposed extension based upon responses to this notice is solely within
the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be
considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a
competitive procurement. No collect calls will be accepted. See
