16 -- GROUND PROXIMITY WARNING SYSTEM POC Contact, Dan Owens, (301) 757-5893, fax (301) 757-5955, email owensdj1@navair.navy.mil The Naval Air Systems Command intends to contract on a sole source basis with Cubic Defense Systems Inc. of San Diego, California for the procurement of AN/AYQ-23(V) Category III Ground Proximity Warning Systems (GPWS) for rotary wing aircraft. This is a follow-on procurement for Category III GPWS which will provide commonality with existing units currently in production and being installed in Naval rotary wing aircraft. The contract will include production and delivery of approximately 297 units, including spares, beginning in FY 2000 and completing in FY 2002. The GPWS consists of a Ground Proximity Warning Computer and an installation kit that includes a mounting rack, connector, circuit breakers, cabling, engineering and technical data. The GPWS will be installed into the various rotary wing platforms. Cubic Defense Systems Inc. is the sole designer, developer and supplier of the algorithm for the Category III version of the GPWS, and as such, is the only source with the technical expertise and required data to satisfy the government's requirement within the required time constraints .
