Waltner, 617/495-7401, FAX 617/496-7957 or email: pwaltner@cfa.harvard.edu The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) intends to purchase on a sole source basis CISCO equipment and installation of same from GTE Hawaiian Telephone Company, Inc. The equipment is identified below. The equipment will be installed at Hilo, HI and at the summit of Mauna Kea, island of Hawaii. The summit is at 13,500 feet. The site is within the bounds of the Mauna Kea Science Reserve, operated by the University of Hawaii. The contractor is required to be approved as a qualified CISCO "Gold Partner" with on-island qualified support technicians. The equipment being purchased must be totally compatible with the unique fiber optic network already installed by the University of Hawaii and the other observatories on the mountain. The selected CISCO equipment has proven to be unusually tolerant of operating in the harsh environment found at the summit of Mauna Kea. The equipment to be purchased and installed is: (1) Cisco 7206 Modular Router for Hilo, composed of: Cisco 7206 6-Slot chassis 1 AC PowerSupply; NPE-200 Cisco 7200 Network Processing Engine 4 MB SRAM Option; C7200-I/O-FE Cisco 7200 I/O Controller with Fast Ethernet Port; MEM-I/O-FLC16M Cisco 7200 I/O PCMCIA Flash Memory, 16 MB Option; SF72BS-11.1.17C Cisco 7200 Series IOS Desktop and IBM Feature Set; FR-WPP72 Cisco IOS 7200 Series WAN Packet Protocols PLUS License; and PA-A2-4T1C-T3ATM ATM Circuit Emulation Switch (CES) Port Adapter (4T1 CES Ports and 1 T3 ATM Port). (2) Catalyst 5509 Modular Ethernet Switch for Hilo, composed of: WS-C5509-S3-E3 with A/C power and Sup 3 with NFFC II and WS-X5225R 24 Port 10/100TX Backbone Switching Module (FEC, 802.1Q/ISL RJ-45). (5) Catalyst 2924C-XL Fast Ethernet Switch for Digital Correlator Room at Summit, composed of: WS-C2924M-XL -ENCatalyst 22-port 10/100 FE Switch W/2 100BaseFX Uplinks and WS-X2922-XL-V 2-port 100 Base FX ISU 802.1Q Switch module. Required delivery is 45 days ARO. A determination by SAO to not compete this proposed procurement, based on responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of SAO. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
