The major items of work include: (1) Construct new islands in the Mississippi River in Minnesota upstream from Lock and Dam No. 5a. Island embankment fill shall be obtained from the existing Wilds Bend dredged material pile borrow area stated in (2) below and from dredging the river in the designated areas adjacent to the location(s) of the new islands. Additional island work consists of riprap slope protection, turfing, and plantings. (2) Remove (excavate/dredge) and transport existing dredged material from the Wilds Bend dredged material pile borrow area located on the Mississippi River in Wisconsin and upstream from Lock and Dam No. 5A. Such removed existing dredged material is to be placed in the new island construction work and/or placed in Contractor selected on-land placement site(s) to be located primarily in Minnesota. (3) Perform miscellaneous related work. THIS PROCUREMENT IS 100% SET ASIDE FOR SMALL BUSINESS CONCERNS. SIC Code is 1629; Small Business Size Standard is $13.5 Million. In accordance with the size standard requirements, bidders are advised that to be considered a small business concern, a firm must perform at least 40% of the volume dredged with its own equipment or equipment owned by another small dredging concern. The estimated magnitude of construction in terms of physical characteristics and estimated price range is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000.
