FOR INFORMATION ONLY. No solicitation will be issued. The Defense
Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) intends to award a sole source contract
to the Chemical Physics Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences to
study formation of clouds of reacting and nonreacting solid particles
in air from different sources, development of explosions in these
clouds, and blast waves produced by these explosions. Potential
devastation effect of these clouds will be assessed and compared with
gaseous explosions of condensed charges. Due to its unique knowledge,
experience, and expertise in fuel-oxidizer mixtures used in explosive
devices and high-amplitude long-lasting reactive shock waves, the
Chemical Physics Institute is the only organization capable of
performing this effort. Contemplated period of performance is 7 months.
