This is a combined Synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared
in accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented
with additional information included in this notice. This announcement
constitutes the only solicitation; proposals are being requested and
a written solicitation will not be issued. The invitation for bid
document and incorporated provisions and clauses are those in effect
through the Federal Acquisition Circular (FAC) 97-11. This is a 100%
set-aside for small business procurement. The Standard Industrial Code
is "5045". The small business size is 100 employees. The Department of
Veterans Affairs, Austin Automation Center (AAC), Austin, Texas (AAC)
intends to procure the following item: 8,000 each (Imation Black Watch
brand or equal) 3490E -- 810 MB, 1,100 ft. (335 meters) magnetic data
tape cartridges. Tape must have a 0.04 mil non-magnetic coating; meet
a minimum intrinsic coercivity of 520 Oersteds +/- 30Oe with a minimum
30 dB narrow band signal-to-noise ratio. Tapes must have zero permanent
and zero temporary errors with a maximum of 100 ECC (corrected errors)
in 1,100 ft. (335 meters). Cartridges must meet or exceed ANSI, ISO,
and IBM 39.37 inch drop test standard. Leader block must meet a minimum
of 5000 load/unloads. All tapes shall be initialized with the following
header format/data code/operating system (IBM EDCDIC/MVS). All the
cartridges shall be labeled with an EDP Tri-optic 1687-VC label. The
label numbering series are: 1) 7,000/each sequence 308500-315499 and 2)
1,000/each sequence 272000-272999. Delivery of the tape cartridges
shall be no later than May 15, 1999. Delivery Address is: Austin
Automation Center, 1615 Woodward Street, Austin, TX. 78741. Responses
shall be in writing and can be mailed to the attention of the
contracting officer or faxed to 512/326-6028. The following FAR clauses
apply to this solicitation: FAR 52.212-1, Instructions to Offerors,
Commercial Items with the addendum FAR 52.216-1 Type of Contract --
"The Government contemplates award of a firm fixed price contract
resulting from this solicitation"; all offerors will be required to
provide a completed copy of the provision FAR 52-212-3 Offeror
Representations and Notifications-Commercial Items and with addendum,
VAAR 852.219-70 Veteran Owned Small Business; FAR 52.212-4 Contract
Terms and Conditions-Commercial Items with addendum FAR 52-219-6 Notice
of Total Small Business Set-Aside; and FAR 52.212-5, Contract Terms and
Conditions Required to Implement Statutes or Executive Order-Commercial
Items. The Standard Commercial Warranty is required. Offers must be
submitted within 10-days from the publication of this notice and should
