49 -- ENGINE SLING SOL 49 -- Engine Sling DUE 050899 POC Contract Specialist: Mr. Jeffrey DeVilder, AMSTA-AC-PCH-C, (309) 782-6329 DESC: This requirement is for Engine Slings, NSN: 4910-01-243-5556. A mechanical sling used for lifting, suspending, tilting and leveling vehicle engines and transmissions with a load capacity of not less than 4,000 pounds. The sling assembly shall consist of the following components: A tilting gear mechanism with a built-in self-locking device, a lifting eyebolt having an opening of 1-11/16 inch + or 1/16 inch in diameter, a 5/16 inch cross sectional chain with swiveling hooks on each end (The swiveling hooks at each end of the chain shall be forged steel with a throat opening of not less than 1 inch. The total length of the chain and the two attached swiveling hooks shall be not less than 65-3/4 inches long). The tilting mechanism shall be manually operated to allow the chain to be raised or lowered in either direction (when one leg of the chain is raised the other will lower). If the tilting mechanism is operated by any means other than a standard male hexagon shape extrusion, the required handle orwrench shall be provided.
