JOHNSON.KIMBERLEY@EPA.GOV. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's
National Exposure Research Laboratory -- Environmental Sciences
Division in Las Vegas, Nevada, is currently seeking information from
potential sources to develop a soil sampling device which effectively
eliminates the loss of volatile organic compounds to the atmosphere
during sample collection. The sampler development will take place in
two phases over two years. The first phase of development will require
the modification of a commercially available soil coring tool to allow
for the direct connection of a 40-mL glass VOA vial to the cutting bit
of the soil coring tool. If phase 1 is successful (as determined by
field testing for maintenance of the physical integrity of the VOA vial
by the EPA) then phase 2 will be initiated. Phase 2 will involve the
preparation of a Teflon -based liner and plug system which will allow
for the rapid sealing of the collected soil sample into the 40-mL VOA
vial. A preliminary confidential schematic diagram has been prepared by
the EPA and will be made available to respondents upon issuance of a
Request for Quotations. Potential sources should mail (USEPA, Attn: Kim
Johnson, P.O. Box 93478, Las Vegas, NV 89193-3478) or fax
(702/798-2692, Attn: Kim Johnson) a letter (reference: Soil Sampling
Device) which contains: Company Name, Point of Contact, Phone and Fax
numbers. NOTE: THIS NOTICE IS FOR INFORMATION GATHERING ONLY. NO FUNDS
ARE AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME FOR THIS REQUIREMENT. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY
NOTICE ISSUED. NO PHONE REQUESTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Posted 04/08/99
