Charleston is conducting a market survey to determine the existence and
interest of possible sources who possess the capability of providing
Automated Electronic Classrooms (AECs). AECs are classrooms equipped to
deliver curriculum materials in an electronic (non-paper) format. An
AEC takes advantage of electronic data storage, communication, and
display technologies that permit new ways of creating and delivering
classroom instruction. Proposed systems should be immediately available
non-developmental items and have the following minimum features: 1) An
enhanced PC based Instructor Station with facilities to import, author
and customize instructional materials. The station should include all
equipment (PC, desk, chair, etc.) necessary for an instructor to
conduct class. The Instructor Station functions should be accessible
via remote control. At a minimum, the Instructor station should have
the capability to present the following: a) Inter/intranet access, b)
Class IV Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs); c)
Instructional material authored using AIM I and AIM II; d)
Instructional material authored using generally available COTS
authoring tools; e) Electronic Classroom Management software for
presentation of text, graphics, animations, and video segments. 2)
Networked student stations configured to access and display information
from a common classroom source (classroom server or instructor
station). These stations should be able to be controlled from the
instructor station. 3) Large Interactive Display or a video projection
device and screen capable of displaying information from the
instructor station and accepting information directly via keyboard and
writing device. Should be controllable via same remote as instructor's
station. 4) Electronic Classroom Management (ECM) software with
capabilities to control applications used to present video, audio,
graphical, and textual files. These applications should be able to be
linked to an instructors lesson material and permit the files to be
displayed at the Instructor Station, Large Interactive Display, or
Student Stations. ECM software will also have the capability to control
student activities and manage the configuration of training materials.
5) 100Base-T TCP/IP network connecting all computing devices including
the large screen display/video projection device. The following list of
files which must be supported includes the following: [Legend: = New or
updated formats in 5.2.1; v = New or updated formats in 5.2.0 now
available on other platforms except where noted otherwise; "Level 5"
Filter = an increased level of functionality. All filters for new
