A -- OFFICE OF NAVAL RESEARCH FY 2000 YOUNG INVESTIGATOR PROGRAM (YIP) SOL ONR BAA-009 DUE 100199 POC Vera M. Duberry, Contract Negotiator, ONR Code 253, (703) 696-2610, Technical POC Bruce Thompson, ONR Code 353 (703) 696-0431 E-MAIL: click here, duberrv@onr.navy.mil. The Office of Naval Research announces the FY 2000 Young Investigator Program, in which U.S. citizens, nationals, and permanent residents, holding tenure track or permanent positions at U.S. institutions of higher education, who received Ph.D. (or equivalent) degrees on or after 01 December 1994, are invited to submit research proposals in support of naval research interests. At least 18 grant awards of $100,000.00 per year for three years (with the possibility of greater support to purchase equipment and or through matching funds) are anticipated. Selection criteria are: 1. past performance, demonstrated by the significance and impact of previous research, publications, professional activities, awards and other recognition, etc.; 2. a creative research proposal, demonstrating the potential for making progress in an important, naval-relevant scientific area; and 3. a long-term commitment by the institution of higher education to the applicant and the research. The ONR Young Investigator Program is not a "research initiation" opportunity with standards that are less demanding than ONR's regular research grant program. ONR's Young Investigator awards are intended to confer honor upon awardees beyond the research funding being provided. Details regarding proposal preparation are provided in the FY 2000 YIP announcement. This announcement can be accessed through the ONR home page at http://www.onr.navy.mil/ (see Education/URI Programs). A description of the Department of the Navy's current priority research areas is available by selecting Science and Technology on the ONR home page. Applications for the FY 2000 competition must be received by one of the ONR points-of-contact listed on the announcement by 4:00PM Eastern time on Friday, 01 October 1999. Proposals should be accompanied by completed certifications which can be accessed at http://www.onr.navy.mil/ (see Contracts and Grants, certifications and submittal statement document.
