COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 13,1999 PSA#2323

National Cancer Institute, Research Contracts Branch, PSAS, 6120 Executive Blvd, EPS/Room 638, Bethesda, MD 20892-7227

66 -- 32 CHANNEL MULTICHANNEL ACQUISITION PROCESSOR (MAP) SYSTEM SOL RFQ-NCI-90083-NV DUE 042799 POC Debbie Moore, Purchasing Agent 301-402-4509; Todd Cole, Contracting Officer 301-402-4509 The National Cancer Institute (NCI) on behalf of the Neurophysiological Pharmacology Section (NPS), National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) plans to procure a 32 channel Multichannel Acquisition Processor (MAP) system from, Plexon Inc., 6500 Greenville Ave., Suite 730, Dallas, TX 75206. This equipment will allow NPS to collect and analyze data from several electrode arrays of 8 electrodes each implanted in different brain regions of study subjects. Single unit neuronal activity is amplified and differentially recorded through 32 differential amplifiers. In addition it is processed and monitored through software that makes it possible to selectively adjust the amplification and record from each of the electrodes independently, to selectively save data representing waveform and timing of the action potentials and subsequently to perform cross correlations on spike trains from all the different pairs of neurons recorded. The Plexon System allows simultaneous capturing of spike train data from 32 electrodes in Event Timing System (ETS) mode in a continuous uninterrupted manner. The system also provides for capture and storage of waveforms, raster display of the spikes from all channels with display of waveforms, programmable amplification, filtering, switching and digital signal processing of the interspike intervals. The Cellular Neurobiology Branch at NIDA currently uses the Plexton system and in order to collaborate and share data with the researchers at NIDA it is necessary for NPS to also have the Plexon system. Plexton is the only source known to NINDS that can provide a 32 channel Multichannel Acquisition Processor (MAP) System that meets the aforementioned criteria and maintains the consistency and reliability of data that is shared with other laboratories/institutes. This is not a request for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes it can provide the above system, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can meet this requirement. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 1:00 PM EST, on April 27, 199. If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Moore, Purchasing Agent on (301) 402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Posted 04/09/99 (W-SN318055). (0099)
