42 -- REPLACEMENT OF OMEGA BRAND SPRINKLER HEADS SOL RFQ#100-002-9 DUE 060199 POC Tonya L. McClinton, Contract Specialist (202) 307-0985 The Federal Bureau of Prisons is seeking to award a firm fixed price contract for 33,725 replacement sprinkler heads. The Bureau is replacing sprinkler heads at 36 institutions, and intends to purchase the following types: 23,750 sidewall, 9,275 pendant, and 700 pendant, 3/8" orifice. Replacement sprinkler heads must be listed by Underwriters Laboratories, approved by Factory Mutual, and meet the requirements for NFPA installations. At minimum, they must be chrome plated, Quick response, Institutional type sprinkler heads for light hazard occupancies, designed to be tamper resistant and eliminate the opportunity for individuals to injure themselves or others. They must not be able to support weight or they must be able to release suspended loads. We will be replacing the following Omega type heads: HEC-12 PRO (institutional sidewall) and C-1A PRO (institutional pendent). Some of the necessary criteria that is needed includes the requirements for Quick Response, standard coverage areas in a light hazardoccupancy and meet the standard flow and pressure requirments as specified in the current edition of NFPA 13. This criteria includes but is not limited to: Sidewall/Pendent styles Orifice Size -- 1/2" & 3/8" K Factor -- 5.3 -- 5.8 Thread size: 1/2" N.P.T. Maximum working pressure: 175 psi Chrome Finish Escutcheon & Security Closure: Chrome Installation of sidewall must be able to be installed to operate properly between 4" to 12" below the ceiling.
