Land Management(BLM), Kanab Office, Utah has a requirement to conduct
a second and final phase of the Kaiparowits Class II cultural resource
inventory of lands managed by the Grand Staircase -- Escalante National
Monument in south-central Utah. In 1998 a stratified sample was
implemented that completed approximately 50% of the inventory. Five
strata were completed: Brigham Plain-Jack Riggs Bench, East Clark
Bench, Horse Flat, Horse Mt.-Paradise Bench and Long Flat. Site
densities varied from 2.7 per section to 48.5 in the higher elevations
with an overall average of 23.2 per square mile. The area that remains
to be inventoried includes (but is not restricted to): Fourmile Bench,
Nipple Bench, Smoky Mt. And Collet Top. Specific Study Objectives are:
1) to identify and evaluate, based primarily on surface indications,
all cultural resources located on lands selected for survey within the
project area. 2) Describe land-use patterns for the various
environmental zones/localities of the Kaiparowits Plateau. Up to 10% of
the contract amount may be made available for testing if funding
permits. Period of performance: field work is expected to commence
toward the beginning of June 1999, all work, including the final report
is to be complete within 360 days. All responsible sources may submit
an offer which will be considered. The solicitation is expected to be
