TRANSIMS OPPORTUNITY FORUM (A WORKSHOP ON COMMERCIALIZATION AND DEPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES) Organizations interested in exploring opportunities for commercialization and deployment of TRANSIMS, a new simulation-based methodology for transportation system analysis and planning are invited to participate in this workshop. TRANSIMS is being developed by the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). TRANSIMS (TRansportation ANalysis SIMulation System) is a set of new transportation and air quality analysis and forecasting procedures developed to address Clean Air Act, Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA), and Transportation Efficiency Act for the 21st Century (TEA21) requirements, as well as other federal regulations. It is a package of mutually supporting simulations, models and databases that employ advanced computational and analytical techniques to create an integrated regional transportation system environment. By applying advanced computing technologies and methods, it simulates the dynamic details that contribute to the complexity inherent in today's and tomorrow's transportation challenges. The integrated results from detailed simulations will provide support to transportation planners, engineers, decision makers and others who must address environmental pollution, energy consumption, traffic congestion, land use planning, traffic safety, intelligent vehicle efficacies, and transportation infrastructure effects on quality of life, productivity and economy. Detailed information about TRANSIMS and this workshop may be found at http://transims.tsasa.lanl.gov/ or http://www.lanl.gov/partnerships/energysurety/transims. This workshop will explore opportunities for commercialization and deployment of TRANSIMS utilizing federal funding provided by TEA21. At the workshop organizations interested in developing TRANSIMS commercial products will Learn about the TRANSIMS commercialization process; Receive a technical overview and additional details about TRANSIMS; Learn how the TRANSIMS software can be used in the transportation planning process; Meet with the Los Alamos National Laboratory TRANSIMS development team; Meet representatives of the potential customer base for TRANSIMS products to learn about and understand their transportation planning requirements; Receive TRANSIMS software to assess and evaluate (a restricted software license agreement, provided at the web-site, must be executed and returned prior to the workshop); and Meet other software developers to form potential teaming relationships. The workshop will be held at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico from June 28 through June 30, 1999. Registration information and materials are enclosed and participants are encouraged to complete the online registration process at http://www.lanl.gov/partnerships/energysurety/transims. The registration deadline is May 26, 1999. Larry Blair and Linda Rowton of Civilian and Industrial Technology Programs will host this workshop. They can be reached at 505-665-3322 or (fax) 505-665-2964 or lrowton@lanl.gov for questions or additional workshop information. Participants attending the TRANSIMS Opportunity Forum must execute a Software Test and Evaluation License Agreement prior to the workshop. This Agreement must be executed in order for your organization to receive the TRANSIMS software package. The License Agreement can be found at the following web site: http://www.lanl.gov/partnerships/energysurety/transims. Please download the License Agreement, fill in your company's information, execute the completed License Agreement, and return it by May 26th with your registration documents. For questions regarding this License Agreement, please contact Laura Barber at (505) 667-9266, ljbb@lanl.gov or Nancy Cameron at (505) 665-3746, ncameron@lanl.gov. For TRANSIMS technical information, contact Suzanne Watters, Technology and Safety Assessment Division, 505-665-0639, 505-665-5204 (fax) or swatters@lanl.gov. Attendance and accommodations are limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. Please make your reservations early. Please limit your attendees to two representatives for each organization. Following the workshop, interested organizations will be invited to submit their qualifications and may be invited to respond to a Request for Proposal (RFP) to participate in the TRANSIMS commercialization and deployment process. We will be posting a preliminary request for expression of interest and statement of qualifications on the following web site: http://bus.lanl.gov/bus5/vendor/solicitations/default.htm. This document will be for information only and will be subject to change. Further information will be available at the workshop. A subsequent bidders conference is being planned for a later date at a place to be determined.
