The objective of this proposed procurement is to perform comparative evaluations of alternative rear signal systems that might help drivers better detect and respond to stopped vehicles ahead. For the top two recommended signal systems, the contractor shall determine the signal system characteristics most desirable from human factors and practical perspectives and develop prototypes. Finally, the contractor shall evaluate the performance of drivers in response to the two signal systems prototypes. It is contemplated that a Cost-Reimbursable type contract will be awarded for this effort. The period of performance is for twenty-two (22) months.
