COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 19,1999 PSA#2327SP -- AIR FORCE OPERATIONAL TEST AND EVALUATION CENTER (DET 1/AFOTEC)
INDUSTRY DAY Detachment 1, Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation
Center (Det 1 AFOTEC) will host an industry day forum on 11 May 1999
for the technology vendor community at large. Purpose will be to give
an effective insight into Det 1's unique mission and general operating
capabilities so as to enhance and facilitate future cooperative
dealings between the Det and interested attendees. Headquartered at
Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, Det 1 is comprised of approximately 100
government personnel with the mission of conducting non-traditional,
cost effective, rapid test and assessments to provide information to
operating commands and to determine the military utility of evolving
technologies and concepts. As a relatively compact organization, Det 1
is particularly suited to quick reaction, fast turn around activities
and has conducted numerous such projects for a wide range of
government entities to include the Department of Defense, all three
branches of service, and other federal agencies. The nature of these
assessments have varied widely and the related test and field locations
have been located throughout the CONUS and the Overseas Commands and
included ground, air and maritime related operations. These wide
ranging activities were both varied and on occasion entailed
significant degrees of support and technical assistance to Air Force
Battlelab Initiatives, Advanced Concept Technology Demonstrations,
Chemical/Biological, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle testing and assessments of
emerging technologies of interest to the warfighter. Det 1 also
provides prompt and rapid evaluations of Air Force and DoD systems in
support of the acquisition process. In so doing, Det 1 has and
continues to deal with a wide spectrum of technologies and subjects.
This includes, but is not limited to, such areas as Global Positioning
and Mapping, Environmental Technology, Sensors, Unmanned Vehicles and
Robotics, Communications Systems, Multimedia, and Chemical/Biological
Technology. By such experience, Det 1 has become a leader in applying
off-the-shelf, state-of the-market technologies to solve customer
requirements. Part of the unique capabilities that Det 1 possesses are
the resources and equipment to create tailored, _mini-test ranges,_ by
deploying instrumentation, data collection, situational awareness
displays, and analysis tools directly to the actual environment where
a system or technology is intended to be employed, rather bringing this
system to pre-established ranges. The mobility and deployment capacity
of Detachment 1 is another factor which contributes to lower costs as
well as timely and effective results. This industry day forum will
provide opportunities for an information exchange on state-of
the-market technologies applicable to Det 1_s mission and goals.
Administrative. The industry forum will consist of mission and
capability briefings by Det 1 personnel. Selected displays will also be
on hand and the expected time duration will be from 3 to 4 hours in
length. There will be no classified briefings or discussions.
Attendance at this event may not be used to state or imply an
endorsement of your product by AFOTEC or the United States Air Force.
The activities will start at 0900 hours at the Defense Nuclear Weapons
School, Red Wing Area, located at 1900 Wyoming Blvd, Kirtland AFB, NM.
