Administrator, (301) 827-7177 or fax (301) 827-7151 The Food and Drug
Administration will issue a Request for Quotes (RFQ) for a study on
Vitamin K status of nonhispanic girls and young adult women. This
procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition
Procedures (SAP). The Center for Safety and Applied Nutrition's (CFSAN)
purpose for this requirement is to conduct a very specific measurement
that is integral to its study examining the status of vitamin K in a
segment of the U.S. population. The specific aims of this study are: 1)
to determine the best measure of vitamin K status in a nationally
representative sample of female participants in the NHANES III survey
by examining the relationship between dietary vitamin K intake, serum
phylloquinone, and serum levels of a functional marker of vitamin K
status, the degree of under carbozylation of serum osteocalcin; and 2)
to determine the influence of age and dietary intake on the
nutritional status of vitamin K in this sample of girls and young adult
women. The scope of work will require analysis of approximately 553
serum samples from the NHANES III survey for total serum phylloquinone
levels and for the level of PIVKA II or protein in the absence of
vitamin K, an under carbozylated form of the clotting factor
prothrombin synthesized in the liver. Interested firms have fifteen
(15) days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to
the identified point of contact, their request for RFQ F63333.
Responses received after the fifteen days will be considered
non-responsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A
determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on
a full and open competitive basis, based upon response to this notice
is solely within the discretion of the Government. Posted 04/16/99
