The Doublehead Ranger District, Modoc National Forest, intends to acquire services to perform site preparation for tree planting in the area burned by the Long-Damon Fire. Contractor shall spread soil windrows, knock down cull trees and snags, and perform subsoiling at a depth of 18 inches, on approximately 2,280 acres. Project is located approximately 28 miles south of Tulelake, California. A tractor, crawler type, is required for this project. From past experience the Forest Service estimates that a tractor with a minimum of 120 flywheel horsepower will be able to do the project. Caterpillar D7E models with serial number of 6000 or higher, and D7F and D7G models will meet this requirement. Tractor shall be equipped with a hydraulic ripper bar (subsoiler) that will rip the ground covered by the tractor tracks. Tractor shall have a minimum of three ripper shanks. The shoes shall be equipped with wings to facilitate fracture of the compacted soils. Wings shall be a minimum of 14 inches (35.6 cm) in width. Desired estimated start work date is 07-05-99.
