Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) contemplates award of a one-year
contract with two one-year options for the development of a Global
Injection Safety Initiative within World Health Organization and its
partners. The Contractor will furnish the expertise to provide
technical, epidemiological, surveillance and consultative services as
a medical epidemiologist to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention while assigned at the World Health Organization Headquarters
in Geneva, Switzerland. Services will include conducting epidemiologic
studies to determine the risks for transmission of blood born
pathogens via injections; developing, designing and carrying out
surveys on injection frequency; conducting focus groups of health
professionals, health practitioners and the general public on unsafe
injection practices; and developing, designing and implementing
interventions to alter unsafe injection practices and behaviors of
individuals and populations. Other activities include publishing in
peer reviewed journals the research findings and make presentations on
the research studies to national and international professional and
public health agencies. This position requires an individual with a
doctor of medicine degree with expertise in the field of epidemiology
and evidence of having developed and evaluated surveillance and disease
monitoring systems at the country level or for a large state. Also, the
individual must demonstrate expertise in the field of prevention of
blood born pathogens, including hepatitis B virus infections and
hepatitis C virus infections. Experience in establishing and monitoring
disease surveillance and control research in-country is essential. The
individual must demonstrate experience working with the World Health
Organization and/or International Non -governmental Organizations, e.g.
CARE, UNICEF. Must be able to travel extensively throughout the world
and multi lingual ability is preferred. RFP will be available on or
