contemplating the development of a High Fragment Fuze (HFF). The Army
currently has a need for an artillery fuze that has an accurate 4.6
meter height of burst while meeting other safety and performance
criteria. The fuze must incorporate a turn-on timer for the proximity
sensor with a turn-on of 3.5 seconds. The objective is to develop a new
RF proximity fuze or to modify an existing RF proximity fuze for a new
high fragment projectile. The fuze/projectile assembly will be fired
from a modified M137, 105mm cannon that is mounted in the AC-130
Gunship.The government intends to award two sole source contracts
inaccordance with FAR 6.302-1,one to Alliant Techsystems
(DAAE30-99-R-0543),Hopkins,MN and one to KDI Corporation (DAAE30-
99-R-0544),Cincinnati,OH, for the delvery of prototype fuzes to be
evaluated by the Government. The Government intends to downselect to
one contractor for production of 13,780 fuzes. See Numbered Notes 22
