The VA Healthcare System of Ohio (VISN 10) consisting of 4 Medical Center and one Outpatient Clinic has a requirement for coding validation reviews of inpatient and outpatient records for data collection, evaluating the completeness and accuracy of coding diagnoses and procedures in accordance with official coding guidelines (Coding Clinics, CPT Assistant, HFCA/AMA, Ambulatory Patient Groups (APG's)) in a simulated Medicare payment environment. The contractor's reviewer will have current credentials of an Accredited Record Technician (ART), Registered Record Administrator (RRA), or a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). The actual reviewer must have at least three years of training and experience as a consultant in reviewing records in large tertiary care hospitals and outpatient health care organizations having all subspecialties, mental health and primary care, as well as three years of physician education and training experience. All reviews will be conducted utilizing national guidelines and HCFA regulations.
